• Castle of Hegyesd



  • The Castle of Hegyesd was built as a royal fortress in the 14th century. The most illustrious owners of the castle were Miklós Újlaki, the king of Bosnia and Ambrus Sárkány, the High Sheriff of the Hungarian state. In 1561, the Turkish invaders had secourse to stratagy to occupy the castle. Hence, the united Hungarian land forces of the Transdanubia chain of fortresses succesfully beat the Turkish army under siege and destroyed the entire castle following year.

    Length: 12 km's. Can be reached by car.
    Direction: Tapolca, Kossuth street >> in direction Veszprém >> after 10 km's turnout to the left to Hegyesd >> yellow L line towards the castle's ruins
