The visitor may step into the broad yard of the castle first. The upper castle section may be approached along a semicircular cannon bastion built by the Daco Imre Martonfaly in the first half of the 16th century. In front of the upper tower gate a pitfall is carved into the rocky soil, on which a 'pont-levis' made all traspass possible to the upper castle. Here, a residential palace, chapel, and towers were standing, whose considerable ruins still provide a delightful sight today. Wonderful panorama opens onto Lake Balaton from the south-western tower. The earliest wings of the castle were constructed in the 13th century. The most famous lords were King Béla the 4th, the Újlaky family, Bálint Török and Bálint Magyar. The castle was under Turkish siége several times in the 16th and 17th centuries, however they never made it to victory. Unfortunately, thunder struck the castle around 1690, for which reason the powder stock exploded and the entire fortress burnt into its ashes in the great fire.
