  • Lying in the west part of Balaton Highlands, the Tapolca-basin is surrounded dy the picturesque Keszthely Mountains, Southern Bakony and the so-called volcanic „witness” mountains, located on the edge of the basin. Rich in geological and historical properties, Tapolca is one of the most beautiful areas of Hungary. Breathtaking views abound from the slopes and peaks of Véndek, Haláp, Hegyesd, Hajagos, Csobánc, Tóti, Gulács, Badacsony, Szigliget and Szent György Hills. The Basalt colums of Szent György Hill and the High Cliffs of Badacsony are unique phenomenon in Hungary. These sights combined with Szigliget's medieval castle, temple and monastic ruins remind visitors of a rich, mysterius past. Grape cultivation and wine production has a profound impact on the region's economical profile. Since the prosperous era of the Roman Ages through Ancient times it has been the way of living, therefore the Tapolca-basin is one ofof the most famous historical wine producing regions of Hungary.
